Ascension St. Vincent announced on Apr. 17 the successful completion of the first Renal Artery Denervation procedure in Evansville, introducing a new treatment option for patients with uncontrolled high blood pressure.
This development is significant because hypertension remains a leading cause of heart disease and stroke, and many patients are unable to control their blood pressure with lifestyle changes or medication alone.
Renal Denervation, which was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2023, is a minimally invasive procedure designed for patients whose hypertension does not respond to traditional therapies. Clinical data show that about 60–70% of patients see a meaningful reduction in blood pressure after undergoing this procedure, with those having higher initial readings often experiencing the greatest improvement.
“The completion of the first Renal Denervation in Evansville is a win for our community,” said Ascension St. Vincent Interventional Cardiologist AJ Voelkel. “For patients, this procedure offers a physical intervention that can help get their numbers back under control and reduce their long-term cardiovascular risk.”
Ascension St. Vincent reports it is now accepting referrals for individuals with persistent hypertension who may benefit from this new treatment.
