Cost of college went up for all students at the University of Southern Indiana

In-state tuition and fees rose 4.8 percent for 2018-19 at the University of Southern Indiana, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Indiana residents paid $8,349 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $379 more than the $7,970 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 132.8 percent more than residents this year, or $19,436. Their price tag grew 4.3 percent from $18,626 in 2017-18.

About 84 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Indiana residents. And about 16 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 94 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 1,389 students received grants or scholarships totaling $10.2 million and 982 students took out student loans totaling more than $5.6 million.

Including all undergraduates (10,986), 4,998 students used grants or scholarships totaling $35.9 million, and 3,909 students took out $23.1 million in federal student loans.
