OCU Women's Basketball 2022 Class: Ellen & Moniek Meeringa
The Oakland City University Mighty Oaks women's basketball team has added six to their roster for the upcoming 2022-2023 basketball season. Head coach FahKara Hawkins is excited to announce the signings of Ellen and Moniek Meeringa, twin sisters from Elst, Netherlands.
The Meeringa sisters have both represented their country on the national team level. They also played together for the prestigious Orange Lions Academy.
Ellen, a 5'10" guard, played at NCAA Division II Walsh University last year. The Cavaliers finished 28-5 last year and their season ended in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA DII Tournament. Moniek, a 5'10" guard/forward, played at Northwest Kansas Technical College in the NJCAA. She averaged 10 points and 3 rebounds per game last year for the Mavericks.
Coach Hawkins says, "Ellen and Moniek are twins but their games are different on the court. Ellen is a big guard who likes to set up her teammates. She has a good basketball IQ and uses it well on the court. She is also a good shooter. Moniek also has a good basketball IQ. She is a solid shooter and is looking to score when she receives the ball. She scores it well from all three levels. We are excited to reunite the twin sisters on the court and have them be a part of our family."
