Late Goal Pulls Mighty Oaks Soccer Even With Hannibal-LaGrange

The Mighty Oaks soccer team, with their record of 3-2-2, hosted the Trojans of Hannibal-LaGrange University, owners of a 2-1-0 mark, at Aigner Field on Saturday. Despite leading 15-8 in shots, including an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal, the Mighty Oaks trailed must of the way. But a late equalizer pulled the game even, and stayed that way at the final horn.

The Trojans found the back of the net in the 20th minute, as Ryan McQueen headed in a cross from Jorge Galindo, sneaking the ball in past the diving Laurin Aumueller. It wasn't until a corner was awarded to the OCU side in the 86th minute that the Trojan keeper was finally proved vulnerable. Brian Elizarraras sent a pass into the box that was finished by Matias Salfate, giving the Oaks their third tie of the season.

Aumueller came up with four saves, two in each half, while the HLGU keeper, Samuel-Ben Elfner, tallied seven saves, with four in the first period and three in the second. Fouls stood at 14-13 with the Oaks committing one more than the Trojans, while yellow cards were shown to four on the OCU side and just one to the visitors.

The Mighty Oaks will open their River States Conference play on Thursday, September 22, when they travel to Terre Haute, Indiana, to take on Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. Game time is slated for 1:00 pm.
