Men’s Basketball Falls to Chattanooga in Last Exhibition Game

With less than a week before River States Conference play to start, the Mighty Oaks basketball team traveled to Tennessee for one more exhibition game. The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (NCAA D1) hosted the game, which was also televised on ESPN+.

A tough task and a great experience for Oakland City on November 10, facing a program that made it to the NCAA Division 1 National Championships in 2021-22.

The Mocs from Chattanooga were able to get an eight-point lead before the Mighty Oaks found their first bucket. Tyquez Priester made a layup to put Oakland City on the board. Priester ended up leading the Mighty Oaks with fourteen points. Drake Moore and Domantas Sakickas followed, with respectively nine and eight points.

Allen Sims led the team in rebounds, with six, as well as in free-throw percentage, scoring two out of two. Nonetheless, Chattanooga showed its strength and kept building on their lead. At halftime the score was 47-19.

In the second half, the Mighty Oaks were able to find the basket a little more often, scoring thirty. The final score was 93-49. Coach Ken French said on Twitter: "Not the result we wanted in our final exhibition, but a great opportunity nonetheless. Time to get back to Oakland City and prepare for our home opener on Saturday."

The home opener will take place in the Johnson Center at 3:00 PM, following the women's basketball game at 1:00 PM. Simmons College of Kentucky will be the opponent on Saturday. Last week, the Mighty Oaks traveled to Louisville, Kentucky and went home with a 62-57 victory versus Simmons College. Simmons College will be seeking revenge in Oakland City, so a great game is due up this weekend.
