Women’s Basketball Downs Bethel Pilots

With less than a week left before the start of River State Conference play, the Lady Oaks basketball team took on Bethel University from Mishawaka, Indiana at the Johnson Center. An early Oakland City lead carried the home team to victory number four on the year.

Emilee Hope, who had a really good game on the court, opened the score for the Mighty Oaks. After this the Bethel Pilots were able to find a few buckets and took the lead, but a three pointer by Hope gave Oakland City a lead that was never lost.

At the end of the first period, the Lady Oaks were leading by thirteen. The score going into the second period was 24-11. In the second period, Oakland City was able to create a lot of chances, growing their lead to 39-19.

Oakland City kept growing the lead as the game went on. In the third period the Lady Oaks collected fourteen points, while Bethel was able to scored nine. The last period was a high scoring one. The Mighty Oaks slacked a little bit on defense and allowed the Pilots to outscore them in the fourth quarter. The final score was still in favor of Oakland City, as the home squad won by a score of 72-50.

For the Mighty Oaks, Emilee Hope led the team in points (15), followed by Marissa Austin, who had fourteen. Hope's success was partially thanked to three successful three-pointers. Ellen Meeringa also had success from behind the three-point line, making two out of five attempts. Davinique Campbell (8) and Jalaya Dowell (7) led the team in rebounds.

Next up for the Lady Oaks is another home game. Tomorrow, Indiana University South Bend travels to the Johnson Center for a game at 1:00 PM. This will be the last game before River States Conference play starts on November 15 in Midway, Kentucky. After the women's game tomorrow at 1:00 PM, the men's team will have their home-opener at 3:00 PM versus Simmons College of Kentucky.
