Mighty Oaks Survive 2 OT Thriller

In the longest game of the year, the Mighty Oaks were able to take down the Red Wolves of IU East in double overtime on Wednesday evening by a score of 120-115. 

The Mighty Oaks held the advantage going into the halftime break with a 53-50 lead. Sakickas lead the way for the Oaks in the first half with 12 points on 4-5 shooting and 3-3 from three point land. He was followed by DJ Redding with 9 counter and Drake Moore added 7. The Mighty Oaks shot 20-28 from the field in the first half, a whopping 71.4%, while also posting a 77.8% 3-point percentage. 

The Red Wolves were led in the first half by Tobey Billups who put up 16 points on 7-8 from the field. He was followed by Colt Meyer who put up 12 counters on 5-6 from the field. The Red Wolves were 22-37 from the field in the first half and 3-11 from 3-point land. 

In the second half, the Red Wolves were able to take the advantage and tied up the game to send it in to overtime. The Mighty Oaks were up by four with a minute left in the game before a couple of layups by the Red Wolves found their way through to the bottom of the net.

After regulation, the game remained tied all the way through the first overtime. At the start of the second overtime, the Mighty Oaks took advantage, and never looked back, winning the game by the eventual score of 120-115. 

Leading the way for the Mighty Oaks was Allen Sims with 26 points and 6 boards. Following Sims was Sakickas with 22 points on 5-5 shooting from 3 point land while also grabbing 12 rebounds. Drake Moore was 7-14 from the field, putting up 16 while dishing out 6 assists. The Mighty Oaks shot 58.4% from the field and 62.5% from 3 point range. They were 20-30 from the foul line. 

Next up for the Mighty Oaks is a trip to Kokomo on Tuesday the 6th as the take on the Cougars of IU Kokomo.
