The Oakland City University men's basketball team (5-4, 1-3) hosted the Pomeroys of St. Mary-of-the-Woods College (3-7, 0-3) in the Johnson Center on the back side of a double header on Saturday. After pulling ahead by as many as 19 points in the first half, OCU led 44-33 at the halftime break. However, the Oaks found themselves in a battle down the stretch as SMWC mounted a sustained comeback which resulted in OCU falling by the final score of 89-84.

Allen Sims led the way for the Oaks in scoring, pouring in 19 points on 7-10 shooting, going 5-8 from the foul line. Drake Moore added 17 counters on 6-12 shooting, followed by Abdul Wurie who came off the bench to made 3-7 field goal attempts and all eight of his foul shots to post 14 counters. DJ Redding added 12 counters on 6-7 shooting while joining Sims with a game high four assists each. Wurie, Sims and Redding each nabbed four rebounds, the most any of the OCU players could manage.

Keith Germain came off the bench to pace the Pomeroys, going 11-14 from the field and 5-6 from the foul line on his way to game highs in scoring, with 27, and rebounding, with nine. J.R. Lumsden followed closely with 18 counters, thanks to a 14-15 shooting night from the foul line, while Elkin Ramirez added a dozen points, and Robert DeSilvia chipped in with 10.

The Oaks made 28-52 (53.8%) of the field goal tries, going 6-12 (50.0%) from three point range, while the Pomeroys connected on 28-50 (56.0%) of their shot attempts, making 7-16 (43.8%) from beyond the arc. OCU made 22-31 (71.0%) from the foul line compared to 26-33 (85.7%) for SMWC.

OCU led in assists 16-9, with both teams turning the ball over 14 times. As a team, Oakland City grabbed 26 rebounds, four fewer than the visitors, with each team snatching nine on the offensive end.

Next up for the Oaks is a road game at Goshen College on December 13. Tip off is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
